A new type of media that currently does not exist but is something that I hope will come true one day with advancements in technology is holographic images when you are on a phone call. When you answer the phone, a ray of light emits from your phone projecting the person who called you right in front of you. This makes it feel like that person is actually with you and you are taking to the image of the person rather than talking through the phone's microphone. This is different from regular video chatting like Skype or FaceTime as those are 2D and you are talking through a screen. This is helpful so that you can place the voice of the speaker to a face. This can be applicable to a business meeting when you may want to know how the person you are talking to looks like. The obvious downside to this new media is if you receive a scam call then you would not want the anonymous person to see how you look like. To solve this problem, a button can be included so that you can have control of whether you want to show the hologram or if you want to stay traditional and hold the phone to your ear. This new media is just an additional to what is already available to us so there is no loss of anything.
Hi Wenny,
ReplyDeleteI quite like your idea of the new media. Though I don't personally video chat often, I think this type of new media would be especially beneficial to those who have not seen their family in person for an extended period of time. The idea of having a more 3D video chatting can give the user a more intimate feel.
That is an excellent idea. We see this a lot in movies and I would love to be able to use technology like this in real life. You're absolutely correct about how you would feel like the person is actually there with you, which could increase the connection that we are losing between people nowadays due to online messaging. Some people have a hard time carrying on a conversation in person but are perfectly fine online so this technology can solve that issue because you would actually visibly see them.
ReplyDeleteI do see applications of this new form of media as an entity in which personal family members who live abroad or are away on work trips can have a more intimate discussion with their loved ones left behind. Many times technologies makes us feel further away from one another while bringing us closer together because of the personal factor that is lost. An application of technology such as discussed here in your blog post will help bridge this gap.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of a new technology that allows people to be more connected. Personally, living completely alone in this country while my family is all in my homeland, I really think this could help a lot in terms of communication and being closer to friends and family.
ReplyDeleteHi Wenny,
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited about what you have discussed in the post, I saw such thing happened in Sci-Fi movies, the most recent one I watched that had such technology presented was Avengers 4: End Game, where the Avengers discussed what to do with the infinity stones and Thanos even they were billions of miles away from each other. I really hope that such technology will happen in our reality soon, although video chatting such as Skype or Facetime are really helpful but they are still far from being real face to face chats. Interactions between people are still blocked by screens, and that makes something very important missing. Holographic images greatly resembles face-to-face chats and therefore provide better communication experiences.
