Blog: P2P

File sharing is the ability to share files from one computer to another through the use of a network or the internet. What this enables is someone who is using one computer can share what they are working on with another person on another computer that may be miles away. As long as both people are connected on the same network or internet, they will be able to share their files to each other regardless of distance. P2P file sharing is the sharing of digital media like books or music using peer-to-peer networking technology. The software program searches for other connected computers that is on the P2P network to help search for the content that someone may be looking for. Examples of P2P file sharing softwares are Gnutella, uTorrent, and LimeWire. Just like any other technology, P2P file sharing can be used for good and for bad. As the article, "Content producers should take advantage of P2P not fear it" says, P2P file sharing can help content creators get the exposure they need. An example of how P2P file sharing can be used to benefit content creators is by releasing the content for free and asking the general public to make voluntary payments almost like a donation to continue what they are doing. Rather than making the public feel like they have to pay just to see your content, you can give them the control of their our money and maybe they will voluntarily make a large payment just to see more content from the creators.
