Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds
Virtual reality can be used in the education system, medical training/medical field, sports industry which will change the game for both players and viewers, and the military system which helps the military train using a wide range of different simulations. The pros of virtual reality is, it is better than reality, can be used to a number of different fields, and gives detail views to name a few. On the other hand, virtual reality is expensive, user become obsessed with the virtual world, the technology is still in its experimental stage, and using virtual reality for training is not realistic. Virtual worlds can foster creativity by letting you design your virtual world however you like because it is not real. Just like a hospital training drill for the staff, computer scientist Ramesh Ramloll can turn a generic hospital scene into a "full-scale virtual hospital, complete with several hundred patient rooms, interactive medical equipment, ambulances, parking lots and familiar scenery (Simon WSJ)." I think the future of virtual worlds will continue to expand because there is so many applications and industries that virtual reality can be used for. Currently, "more than 1,400 organizations use Second Life to hold meetings, conduct training and prototype new technologies more efficiently (Tutton CNN)." What companies like is something is that not too expensive to conduct but also is efficient to get the job done.
